MAN CRITICAL AFTER BEING SHOT THREE TIMES

An East Ruimveldt resident is presently in a serious condition at the G.P.H.C, after being shot thrice about his body by a licensed firearm holder about 02:00 hrs this morning at the Wings and Things Bar, located at Mandela Avenue.
Investigations revealed that the victim Martin Bovell, aka John Corbie, 48 years, a seaman of 374 East Ruimveldt was outside the Bar when an argument ensued between him and the suspect, over the victim resting his beer bottle on the suspect’s car trunk.

 

It was alleged that after the argument, the suspect went into the bar and was followed by the victim who allegedly discharged a round from a handgun in his direction and he (suspect) immediately drew his licensed handgun and discharged three rounds at the victim hitting him in the region of his chest and abdomen.

The victim was rushed to the hospital by patrons and is currently undergoing surgery. The suspect has since been taken into custody and his firearm lodged. Four spent shells were retrieved at the scene. Investigation in progress.

POLICE DESTROYED ACRES OF MARIJUANA PLANT IN BERBICE

Based on weeks of intelligence gathering, ranks of the Guyana Police Force yesterday during a ten hour operation in the Berbice River, destroyed several acres of cannabis and nine camps.
The cannabis and camps were found at Hofwerk and Gatetroy respectively, located several miles out of New Amsterdam.

In excess of eight thousand plants ranging in height from two to six feet with an estimated weight of seventeen thousand kilograms were found under cultivation, with makeshift tents and camps erected under which harvested cannabis was hung up to dry, while a large quantity already packaged in bags with an average weight of nine thousand kilograms.

No arrests have been made so far but investigations are in progress.

COUPLE DIE AFTER STABBING EACH OTHER

Homicide investigators are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of a businesswoman and her paramour which occurred yesterday at their business premises located at Ekereku Hill top, Kamarang.

Investigators revealed that Selima Norton, AKA ‘Shelly’, 45 years of New Providence Housing Scheme, EBD and Kurt Reynolds, 37 years of Silverballi Street, Meadow Brook Gardens, who were operating a business at Ekereku, had an argument over the mismanagement of their business by Reynolds. As a result, the argument escalated into a headed encounter, during which process, it was alleged that Norton armed herself with a two-bladed knife and inflicted two stabs to Reynolds’ abdomen and left foot. Reynolds then allegedly, took away the weapon and stabbed Norton multiple times about her body, after which they both collapsed some distance apart and bled to death.

The bodies are presently at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting post mortem examinations, later this week.

A blood stained double blade knife was recovered at the scene.

MEN ARRESTED FOLLOWING HIGH SPEED CHASE BY POLICE

The Police in A Division have arrested two men this morning following a high speed chase on Lamaha and Republic Streets Georgetown.

 

According to information received, the police reportedly recovered guns and ammunitions while the motor car that was used had a fake registration number.

However the circumstances surrounding the high speed chase is unclear but more details will be provided as it becomes available.

 

 

 

BUSINESSMAN SHOT FOLLOWING ROBBERY

img_9652A twenty-eight year old Chinese chef who was minutes after mid-night shot and robbed as he was in the process of entering his Bonasika Street, section ‘K’ Campbellville home, is hospitalized at a private hospital, in a stable condition.

 
Investigations disclosed that about 00:05h this morning, the victim Coa Ben Fei, had just exited his motor car and opened his gate when three men, one armed with a handgun accosted and relieved him of his cell phone, chain and $80,000 cash G.C; during that process, the armed suspect shot him in the upper right thigh after which they escaped in a dark-coloured motor car.

 
The victim was rushed to Woodlands Hospital where he is being prepared to undergo a surgery. Investigators have retrieved a 9MM spent shell at the scene. No arrests have yet been made.

MEET MISS SUPRANATIONAL GUYANA – Jaleesa Peterkin

img_9649Jaleesa MarChell Peterkin is no newcomer to the world of pageantry. Making her pageant debut at the tender age of 17, this pageant queen has competed in pageants such as the Miss National American Miss, the Miss America Organization, the Miss Universe Organization and Miss Earth. Jaleesa has competed on the local, state and national levels respectively.

 
Growing up in New York City NYC Jaleesa has always had a love for fashion. She is a former model and has even had the chance to grace the runway of Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. She studied Journalism at Hofstra University and hopes to one day be the editor-in-chief of a world renowned high fashion magazine.
One of Jaleesa’s favorite hobbies is traveling. She feels so blessed that she has been able to experience this luxury and enjoys being able to fully immerse herself into new cultures. Traveling not only enhanced her cultural competency, but it also sparked an interest in knowing her own genealogy. She invested time tracing her roots to create her family tree, but not knowing her grandmother and any of that side of the family left a void.
That void did not sit well with Jaleesa and she made it her mission to locate her estranged grandmother and develop a relationship.

It was just this past year that she was finally able to meet her grandmother and learn about that part of her family. During this time, Jaleesa learned about her Guyanese heritage, and of her grandmother’s life before she left Guyana.
Having fallen in love with Guyanese culture many years and then getting to visit Guyana two summers ago, this was a pleasant discovery for Jaleesa. Proud of her multi-Caribbean heritage, Jaleesa is ecstatic to have been asked to be the very first Guyanese representative at Miss Supranational.

Determined to make a name for Guyana at this prestigious event, Jaleesa is sure that her passion, drive, and prior pageant experience will give her a fair chance at the coveted Miss Supranational crown. This 5’9” Caribbean-American beauty was born in Brooklyn, New York and currently resides in Staten Island with her dog Honey.

SOUTH RUIMVELDT MAN SHOT DEAD

img_9590Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder of Michael Payne, 27 years, of South Ruimveldt, which occurred about 0630h. this morning at 85 La Penitence Street, Albouystown.

Investigations have so far revealed that about 2200h. last night, the deceased had an argument with a male suspect at Ketley Street, Charlestown, and this morning the male suspect together with another male suspect went to Payne’s (deceased) home where they allegedly kicked down his door, entered the house and fought with Payne.

During the process, several loud explosions were heard, after which the suspects fled and Payne was discovered with several suspected gunshot wounds to his head, chest and upper left arm. He was rushed to the GPHC where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body is presently at the Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem. One of the two suspects, who is 38 years and resides at Ketley Street, Charlestown, is in custody assisting police with the investigation.

MADHIA MAN FOUND FIREARM AND AMMUNITION

img_9546A dutiful citizen who yesterday found a firearm with four live rounds in Konawaruk Backdam, Mahdia, promptly handed over same to the police.

Enquiries disclosed that the citizen who is a miner, was prospecting a plot of land, when he came across a bag, which when checked found to contain a .22 semi-automatic pistol, a magazine and four live matching rounds.

A Ballistic test will be conducted to ascertain if it was used in the commission of any crime.

LINDEN MAN REMANDED ON DRUG CHARGE

img_9408A 23 year old Linden resident was today remanded to prison, after having been charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

Kyretha Sultan, a bartender, of Lot 70 Amelia’s Ward, Linden, was yesterday morning nabbed at the Itaballi Check Point, by ranks of the Guyana Police Force, with four hundred and seventy- nine grams of cannabis sativa (marijuana)

The defendant appeared before Magistrate D. Best at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, pleaded not guilty and was remanded until November 24, 2016 for trial.

TEEN DROWNS AFTER LEAVING SCHOOL TO GO SWIMMING

img_9539The Police in B Division are investigating the circumstances surrounded the dead of a JC Chamdisingh Student whose lifeless body was fished out of a Canal at Tain Settlement Corentyne Berbice on Wednesday November 09,2016.

Dead is 15 year old Ronaldo Shankar of Williamsburg on the Corentyne.

According to information received, at about 15:00 hours the teen along with three other classmates went to the canal at Tain Settlement to swim after leaving school. However when Shankar plunged into the water he never surfaced causing his friends to panic and informed the police.

The News Room was told that when the police arrived on the scene, they conducted a search and recovered the teen’s body at about 18:00 hours after which he was rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The other teenagers were taken into custody for questioning.
